Mental and physical health both are equally important for us to live a happy and healthy lifestyle. People are aware that physical fitness is very important, but still a huge number of population are not aware that mental health too is important. Mental health also plays a vital role in bringing peace and happiness in life and relationships.

What is mental health?

Mental health is a state of being emotionally, psychologically and socially well. It affects our thought processes, our feelings which in turn affects how we act in our day-to-day life.

Our mental health plays a vital role to increase our productivity and effectiveness in everyday work. It also promotes tour decision-making capability.

What factors then affect our mental health?

  1. Genes or the brain chemistry
  2. Life Experiences
  3. Family Mental History

What are the possible signs of mental health problems?

The signs and symptoms differ in each case of mental health problems. Here are some behaviors that can be warning signs.

  1.  Too much or too less sleeping and eating pattern
  2.  Always feeling exhausted
  3.  Numbness or feeling like nothing matters
  4.  Feeling helpless or hopeless
  5.  Excessive smoking, drinking or using drugs than the usual
  6.  Excessive mood swings

Besides above mentioned list, some also tend to face the following:

  1. Having thoughts that you can’t get out of your head
  2. Thinking of harming yourself
  3. Inability to perform daily task
  4. Getting away from people and usual activities
  5. Unexplained aches and pains.

How to maintain positive mental health?

You can connect with your friends and families who understands you or you can take doctor’s consultations. Some other things you can do are:

  1. Do regular exercise
  2. Eat healthy and have balanced diet
  3. Remember the things you are grateful for
  4. Meditate
  5. Get a sound sleep
  6. Develop a coping skill

Take a good care of your mental health. Your mental health matters, not only to others, but foremost to yourself.
