How many people can say that?

If I were to mention a ‘must read’ work of literature, it would be Tuesdays with Morrie by Mitch Albom. You will never find a book written with such a profound way, but with a language easily understood by all.

Mitch, who was Morrie’s once upon-a-time’s university student, came across an interview of his college professor on the T.V. Morrie’s numbered days (because of ALS) made Mitch think hard and, in no time, he booked a plane ticket to see his professor.

The book Tuesdays with Morrie, Mitch and Morrie’s last thesis together – as they say – is a number of chapters filled with the conversation the two had during Morrie’s last days on earth. It may seem that this book consists of mundane talks between a teacher and a student; which likely isn’t true. Their last thesis together must have been the best and most genuine thesis they’ve completed.

The book not only entertains to the readers but also serves as an encyclopedia of different things that matter in life. Morrie’s acceptance of ageing and death is something everyone could learn from. I first read this book when I was a 9th grader, and ever since then, I’ve made numerous re-visits to its pages. I re-read some chapters whenever I had a bad day and they never failed to cheer me up.

Morrie, indeed, was a wonderful professor, but apart from that, he was an amazing companion to everyone who stopped by to have a little chat with him. What makes this book so special and renowned is that the scenarios Mitch dealt with, almost every day of his life before he re-encountered his professor, are so much similar to the ones people these days deal with and, with Mitch, the readers too get a chance to press a ‘refresh’ button to their lives.

It isn’t just Morrie teaching the right things that makes this book complete but also Mitch asking the right questions. And, that’s probably how most of us stumbles upon this very dear and popular quote:

Love wins, Love always wins.

If I were to mention a ‘must read’ work of literature, it would be Tuesdays with Morrie by Mitch Albom.
