I see many people around me having romantic relationship with their coworkers. However, I always have a mixed feeling about this. What would be the right thing to do?

Having a romantic relationship at workplace is always a tricky affair, and that includes vendors, suppliers and other stakeholders. It is tricky because emotionally you may be involved, and rationally, many a times, you have to set limits. Contemplate upon these things before you take it any further.

Do:

  • Be aware of the risks of getting involved with someone at work.
  • Check your company’s policies. Inform your manager, if you are serious.
  • Discuss an exit plan, if issues arise within the relationship or at the workplace.

Don’t:

  • Ever date someone in the same chain of command or even department, although the company does not prohibit it.
  • Do it if the reasons for the relationship are not love or commitment.
  • Try to keep it a secret.
