Things 2020 Taught Me

The year 2020 and the accompanying lock-down definitely taught me many things. Among these:

1. Eating more at home does not necessarily make you skinnier, but certainly makes you healthier.

2. If you continuously stared at the wall, you start imagining more and eventually inspired to change the wall color and perhaps redo the whole room.

3. Scarves are the savior for virtual meetings. All you got to do is put a fancy one on your pajamas and you’re ready to govern.

4. You can arrange your books color-coded too. Apparently, you do remember your book by its cover.

5. I’ve become pro at giving directions to all the online delivery people. Whatever fancy phone you’re carrying, you still need to remember all the landmarks and store names on the street leading to your home.

6. Jeera and jwaaano look different in real life. And ajwain is jwaano.

7. Life’s simple pleasures like re-arranging flower pots also count as accomplishments.

8. Value all the spots at home, where you can sit at different times of the day according to mood, sunshine and activity.

9. Not applying anything to your face is the best thing for your skin.

10. Not all health foods can be good for you. I’m allergic to avocado and cutting it also makes my hand swell.

11. No one looks through a cookbook anymore. It’s YouTube and Google to the rescue for all trials and errors.

12. How much do we care for our parents and how vulnerable we are for their well-being and health? Until this pandemic, I always thought of them as young, healthy folks. Now, I’ll do anything and everything to keep them safe.

13. Hugs are underrated. It’s an important aspect of our lives and kinda miss it now.

14. Coping isn’t about just being happy. It was about realizing my fear and anxiety too, and seeking ways to address them.

15. At the end of the day, family and home are what matter most. Having each other in health and sickness is the most valuable asset we can ever be blessed with. Also, having each other around, all the time, does make one happier and peaceful.

16. Difficult times makes you take bigger risks. And success in that time is more precious.

With 2021, may we continue to count our blessings and live with the discipline we practiced last year! I just wish for a mask-free and healthiest times ahead – mentally, physically and emotionally.
